Internet video: aggregation, aggregation aggregation

From today the Viral Video Chart has new competition in the form of WeShow, an edited highlight of the best videos from YouTube, Daily Motion and the like, reports the Guardian’s Jemima Kiss.

The idea is to promote good user-generated content in a way that is more like edited TV, with country-specific services and genre-specific channels says Jemima in this article.

Great idea this and one which goes with the general online trend towards aggregation. Interesting (and a relief) that editorial decisions and interest caterories are still important. This will be of some comfort to professional television producers and broadcasters in the face of the UGC explosion. I predict that such sites will be a success as there is a great demand for genre specific short form programming and editorial jusdegements made by professionals.

If viewers grow to trust the selection of content on such sites they should do well.
